FRAMED: 2 December 2015

Framed: In Conversation with the makers of Oddball

Released in September and having already grossed over $10.7mil at the box office, Oddball has proved to be one of the most successful Australian releases of 2015.

This follows from the success of a string of recent high-grossing Australian family films (Red Dog, Paper Planes, Happy Feet 2), further demonstrating that there is a strong market for this content, attracting both local and international audiences.

Based on the true story of Allan “Swampy” Marsh, Oddball follows an eccentric chicken farmer named Swampy (Shane Jacobson) who teams up with his granddaughter (Coco Jack Gillies) to train their mischievous dog, Oddball, to protect the penguins on Middle Island from the threat of foxes in an attempt to reunite his family and save their seaside town.

We spoke to Writer, Peter Ivan and Producer, Steve Kearney about the development process behind this wildly successful Australian family film.
