Prerequisites: Basic Final Cut Pro skills and a story concept preferable

 

Designed for beginners, this course provides you with essential skills for directing for the screen. Apply your skills by directing a cast of actors under the guidance of an industry professional.

The course also overs:

  • Developing your vision
  • Working with the script
  • The producer and director relationship
  • Casting, rehearsing and working with actors
  • Working with key collaborators including cinematographer, designer, composer and sound designer
  • The on set environment & blocking the scene
  • Communicating using diagrammatic tools such as storyboards and shot plans

Jonathan auf der Heide recently directed the feature Van Diemen’s Land, which has screened at festivals including Adelaide Film Festival, Brisbane Film Festival, Melbourne International Film Festival, Sydney Film Festival, Revelation Film Festival in Perth, Edinburgh Film Festival, Sitges Film Festival and Montreal Film Festival. In 2008, Jonathan won Best Student Film & Best Emerging Filmmaker Award at the Melbourne International Film Festival. He has several years experience teaching filmmaking. Jonathan's next project in development is set in the 1970s, and follows a touring indigenous boxing troupe.
