Want to begin editing with Final Cut Pro 7 and get an intro to Final Cut Pro X? This comprehensive workshop is an exercise-based course covering basic editing procedures and the many features of Final Cut Pro 7 and a basic demo and insight into the pros and cons of Final Cut Pro X. Gain an overall understanding of the principles and strategies for non-linear editing and learn about the basic features of the program including:
- Setting up a project
- Capturing media
- Basic picture editing
- Basic sound editing
- Codecs
- Special techniques like titles, credit rolls, layers, filters, image effects, transitions
Please note:
Final Cut Pro (FCS3) and Final Cut Express are currently still available for sale by Apple. The version that Apple are selling (FCPX) is nothing like FCP and very little of the training in this FCP7 class is relevant for FCPX. We only offer a demo of this current software available at retail stores.
A maximum of four participants ensures you one-on-one tutoring.
Who should do this course?
This course is designed for beginners wanting to learn how to operate a non-linear editing system, specifically the Final Cut Pro software. You will walk away with the knowledge and skills to be able to start editing straight away.
Where can I go after this course?
Graduates can apply their skills to their own productions. Open Channel offers intermediate and advanced training in Final Cut Pro.

EDWIN DAUGHTRY
Edwin started making short films at university and after getting one into the St Kilda Film Festival decided on a career screen production. He has produced and directed award-winning short films and documentaries; and has worked as an in-house producer and editor using Premier and Final Cut Pro making corporate videos, TVCs. He was a news editor for the ABC (using AVID), and continues to freelance as an editor and trainer in video production.
MATTHEW ROOKE
Since graduating from VCA in 1994 Matthew has amassed over 12 years of experience as a film & television professional. He has a number of broadcast credits in roles of Producer, Director and Editor. He has recently finished editing a documentary filmed in Antarctica, which he also produced and directed. This was screened on ABC in 2006. Matthew has extensive experience in corporate communication video production as a Director/Editor with blue chip corporations where his work has won awards here and overseas. He has also been editing and directed a number of music videos.
NICK MOORE
Nick has been editing for over fifteen years. He was an early adopter of Final Cut Pro, using it since its first release and teaching it to professional editors from the beginning. He is a much sought-after editor, cutting TVCs, documentaries, drama, music videos and new media. Nick is also an award-winning short film maker and was a programmer for the Melbourne International Film Festival for several years.
