LOVE YOUR WORK! Film Competition Screenings & Awards Night

Presented by Open Channel & Cinema Nova

The votes have been counted and the winners of the 2008 LOVE YOUR WORK! Awards announced at the lively and well-attended screenings held at Cinema Nova, Carlton on Tuesday 9 December & Wednesday 10 December.

Each year, LOVE YOUR WORK! showcases works by emerging and independent filmmakers, with audience members voting for their favourite films. For the first time, LOVE YOUR WORK! screened over two big nights, with a separate screening for Documentary Shorts on Tuesday 9 December, followed by the Narrative Shorts screening on Wednesday 10 December.

NUMURKAH, written and directed by Ryan Coonan, took out the First Prize honours for most popular film of the night - the Catfish Films Audience Choice Award comprising a $5,000 voucher for Catfish Films facilities and services, an Australian Directors Guild Associate Membership and a Crumpler bag.

Matt Dooley, Executive Producer of Catfish Films, stated that: “We’re very proud to support Open Channel and I’m really looking forward to helping [Ryan Coonan] with his next project”.

Second Prize - the Video Australasia Audience Choice Award - went to Slapping Christie (directed by Mitchell Forrester), a hilarious take on that old chestnut, the love triangle.

The Australian International Documentary Conference Audience Choice Award went to The Year I Got Younger (directed by Genevieve Bailey), a heart-warming documentary about an Irish fiddler.

The Encouragement Award for Best Sound Design, as judged by award-winning sound post production studio Music and Effects was presented to Thimbles (directed by Justin Olstein).
