Introduction to Directing with Chris Langman
Starting out in the world of film directing? Chris Langman (pictured, right with Assistant Director Bob Donaldson), who has directed features including Crazy Girls Undercover and television including Blue Heelers, Stingers and Water Rats; hosts a six day course covering all the basics of working as a Director for the screen. Whether you want to direct corporates or commercials, documentaries or drama, you'll learn all you need to know to start directing your own shoots, including working with actors, shot planning and coverage, and working with your crew. Art Department Foundation Course with Julie Belle - commencing shortly, Wednesdays for 6 weeks
This workshop provides participants with a good understanding of professional Art Department practice, and core of basic skills that all new art department crew members should possess to be able to assist in set design and dressing, props buying, standby or art department assisting.
These skills cross over into areas such as digital screen production, theatre and display.

Directing Actors for Screen
It's back again! The jewel in OPEN CHANNEL's training crown. 4 participants in OPEN CHANNEL's 8 day intensive Directing Actors for Screen will get to learn the craft of working with actors, and workshop their film script with a cast of hired professional actors under the guidance of acclaimed Director Alkinos Tsilimidos (Em4Jay, Tom White). Government's Training and Learning Bonus
Are you a returning to Full-Time study, such as OPEN CHANNEL's 14 week Certificate III in Media, or 30 week Advanced Diploma of Screen & Media programs? The Training and Learning Bonus is a payment of $950 to support students with the costs of education and training, and is paid in addition to income support during study (ie. Youth Allowance, Austudy) for eligible recipients. The bonus applies to all students enrolling in Full-Time study up to 30 June 2011. Short & Sharp Pitching Competition 2009
Watch one of the most thrilling and gruelling parts of being a filmmaker live by joining the audience while seven emerging filmmakers pitch an original screen project idea to a panel of industry judges as they compete for the chance to present at SPAA Fringe in October. Get tips on how to pitch your own project by watching other filmmakers in action and learn from the judges’ feedback.
Hosted by Tim Ferguson, one of Australia’s most accomplished performers and writers. The judging panel includes Manager, Script Development Charlie Carman (Film Victoria), producer Sue Maslin (Japanese Story), director Alkinos Tsilimidos (Em 4 Jay), Development Manager Mike Cowap (Screen Australia) and producer Kate Whitbread (The Caterpillar Wish). Judges are looking for originality, variety of genre, and a synopsis that sells.
