The internet has been the greatest propellant of change in a rapidly evolving screen industry over the past decade. Emerging filmmakers and content creators are seeking new platforms to engage wider audiences and build an online community for themselves and their projects. With this shifting industry landscape increasingly driven by audience demand, is traditional media still the benchmark for new content creators, or is a career in online content viable? Welcome to the YouTube generation, where the audience is in charge.
Generation Next: Online Video explored the changing nature of visual storytelling and connecting and distributing to audiences in a digital, connected, interactive, immersive and multi-screen environment.
Over two days we looked at where the audience might be leading us and how storytellers can find, engage and build viable careers in this new online landscape.
Sessions covered topics including building a successful YouTube Channel and generating income, finding and developing stories that work for the online space, establishing a viable brand, building a community for you and your project, commissioning online content, crowdfunding, self distribution and keynote speech from YouTube.
Generation Next: Online Video also encompassed the Australian Online Video Awards (OVAs), which took place on the first night of the 2-day program.
Dates: Tuesday 14th & Wednesday 15th October 2014
