In a feature film, the Cinematographer (or Director of Photographer aka DOP) is held up as the photographic visionary responsible for conveying in images the storytelling of the writer and director. Uniquely, the DOP straddles both technical and creative roles and can work independently or as the head of a production department.

But DOPs are integral to ALL forms of screen-based storytelling, entertainment and communication (studio TV, sport, music videos, commercials, short films, TV drama, documentaries). And each screen format brings with it it's own particular challenges; technical, creative and collaborative.

In Framed: Top DOPs, Open Channel Producer Marc Gracie brings together three of Australia's leading DOPs whose work covers all of these areas in a conversation that is sure to educate and inspire. David Parker is best known for his collaborations with director Nadia Tass (Malcolm, The Big Steal, Amy). But David's work also spans writing, producing and stills photography on features, TV and TVCs in Hollywood, the UK and Australia. Tim Maloney (Axis Films) is best known for live multi-camera studio TV shows (Australian Idol, Australia's Got Talent, So You Think You Can Dance). And rising star John Brawley's work includes music video (Kate Miller Heidke), documentary (Endangered), TV (for ABC, BBC, Discovery, HBO) award-winning shorts (Bird in the Wire, Clara, Four, Celestial Avenue) and features (Lake Mungo, The Perfect Host).
