Nicholas Carlton (online web series Oz Girl) and Lucas Crandles (short film Black Button and animated series Wentworth & Buxbury) have made the internet the principal outlet for their material with stunning results. OzGirl was launched in Feb, 2009 using a social web model for distribution and generated 23 web-based episodes (or webisodes) drawing an audience of 20,000 per episode. Crandles is part of the creative team behind Dark Heart Productions, whose 7-minute short Black Button has generated 1.5 million hits on YouTube and garnered a YouTube Partnership - which allows Dark Heart to receive income from views of their content.
Nicholas Carlton
20-year-old Nicholas Carlton can rightly be considered the Robert Rodriguez of the digital age. He wrote, produced and directed Australia’s first social web series OzGirl during his summer break from VCA. The 23-part, feature length (105 minutes) web series which garnered over 20,000 fans was produced independently on a shoe-string budget of $7,000. Following the phenomenal success of the series, he signed a distribution deal with KoldCast TV which saw the series syndicated across TiVo, iTunes, and Zune. In 2009 the series was awarded Best Overall web series and Best Acting at the International Television Festival in Los Angeles, and in November the series began airing on board Virgin Australia flights.
Nicholas is currently Executive Producing two spin offs of OzGirl, including Megan Brown: Exposed and The Megan Brown Story as well as writing, producing and directing new web series and television pilots, Nicholas is currently writing a feature length romantic comedy.

Lucas Crandles
Lucas describes himself as a 22-year-old prospective film-maker with a particular interest in direction. He made a sharp career change; having been an Army Officer Cadet at the Australian Defence Force Academy, he decided after two years to leave the unbearable cold of Canberra and return to the unbearable cold of Melbourne to pursue his other dream; film-making. He is currently completing his Bachelor of Arts at the University of Melbourne. His 2007 short film Black Button was a finalist in the Best Short Film category on YouTube and SiMi websites, and was broadcast in the US through CATS TV and CNBC. Animated series Wentworth & Buxbury was awarded 'Best Animation' at the 2009 Independent Television Festival in Los Angeles, and 'Best writing' at the 2008 New York Television Festival.
