FRAMED #05 – Don't leave your film on the shelf!

Glendyn Ivin, Director

Glendyn originally studied graphic design and worked for many years in design studios before following his desire to study film and in particular, documentary, at The Victorian College of the Arts, School of Film and TV in 1998.

Glendyns graduating film Neverland, was a journey into the sub-culture of inner-city bicycle couriers which earned him numerous awards including Best Direction on the festival circuit.

Since 2000, Glendyn has been a director at Exit Films, one of Australia’s most successful commercial production companies. Here he has built a successful career as a commercial and music promo director, creating award winning work for a variety of different brands in Australia and overseas.

Cracker Bag, completed in 2003 was Glendyn’s first short drama. Based on a childhood experience, the film won the Palme d’Or for short film at the 2003 Cannes Film Festival. Cracker Bag was nominated for four Australian Film Institute Awards (AFI), winning two for Best Short Screenplay and Best Short Film, It also won best short at the Dendy Awards and the St Kilda FIlm Festival in 03. The film also went on to win prizes at the 2004 Berlin and Aspen film festivals in.

In 2005, Glendyn directed Von Stauffenberg's Stampstarring Sam Neill as part of the television series Two Twisted for Channel 9, produced by Bryan Brown.

In 2006 Glendyn wrote and directed another short The Desert, a visual poem which was nominated for an AFI award. And In 2007 he produced and directed the controversial film / clip Paradise, a collaboration with legendary Australian rock band Magic Dirt. The film is part sonic assault, part pictorial history of the centerfold.

Last Ride is Glendyn's feature film debut. Based on the novel The Last Ride by Denise Young, the screenplay was written by Mac Gudgeon and stars Hugo Weaving. Last Ride tells the story of a desperate father on the run with his 10 year old son.

Short Attention

Short Attention co-founded by Tony Martin & Mandy Entwistle in 2007 is Australia’s largest distributor of Australian produced Short Films. Their short films are sold to broadcasters such as NBC Universal , Mini MovieRussia, Canal Plus France, SVT Sweden, Independent Film Channel USA etc in over 45 countries world wide. They have strategic supply relationships with Film Schools such as AFTRS, Sydney Film School, Festivals such as Tropfest and a large network of Independent Producers including , Nash Edgerton, Elissa Down, Duane Fogwell and more…

The catalogue of short films have been filtered, screened and culled down from literally thousands of submissions and they are constantly sourcing and evaluating new Short film content.
Whilst always on the lookout for international broadcast clients they are also looking to develop an extensive domestic market which will enable a greater number of Australian public to view short films in a range of venues and locations.

In essence, Short Attention take on Short film content that has run its ‘Festival life’ and look for opportunities for broadcast internationally and domestically.

Short Attention also works with local Producers to create original series for International Broadcast. Recent examples include food/lifestyle series Boys Weekend featuring Masterchef Judge Gary Mehigan. Boys Weekend has sold to over 50 Countries Internationally including BBC World Wide, UKTV, Food Network Canada, Chellomedia Central Europe and can be seen on Lifestyle Channel Australia currently and Channel 10 over the summer.

A number of new spin off series are also in production including Good Chef Bad Chef series II, Tropical Kitchen, Secret Meat Business and World of Cycling hosted by voice of the Tour de France Phil Ligget.
