Sue Edwards, Senior Investment Manager, Film Victoria

Sue Edwards was appointed as Film Victoria’s Investment Manager in June 2007 after having worked extensively across production in the film and television industry for over 20 years. She worked as Line Producer on television projects including GOOD GUYS BAD GUYS (Series 1) as well as several series of HALIFAX fp. More recently, she Co-Produced the series LAST MAN STANDING with Marieke Hardy and was the Line Producer on SATISFACTION (Series 1) for Showtime. Currently working as the Senior Investment Manager at Film Victoria, Sue is responsible for overseeing both the Production Investment and TV Pilot funding programs. She is also involved with assessment panels for the Professional Development, Business Support, Factual Development and Cross Platform & Scoping funding programs.

Julie Marlow, Senior Policy Consultant, SPAA / Producer, Deep Rock Pty Ltd Film Production Services

Julie Marlow, MA (Hons) Fine Art and Mediaeval History (St Andrews University), began her career in the industry in 1980 in sales and distribution at EMI Films in London, and since then has worked extensively in development, financing and packaging film and television in Europe and Australia. She has worked on a range of film, television and documentary projects as writer, script editor and producer. Julie was Director of Film Victoria from 1999 to 2002. She has since made several documentaries as producer/writer, including a four-part series for SBS, The Closet Tales of Australian Fashion, a one hour on women’s bodybuilding, Gorgeous – Inside the World of Female Bodybuilding and most recently In Search of Shilan, a love story about female Marxist PKK guerrilla fighters in the mountains of Northern Iraq. She is currently developing a range of feature film and television projects. Julie is a recent past Chair of Australian Teachers of Media, and is currently a Senior Policy Consultant for Screen Producers Association of Australia, developing film and television policy in close conjunction with federal and state government agencies, running the SPAAmart program for SPAA, and is closely involved in the International Federation of Film Producers Associations (FIAPF). She works with various national and international government agencies and private sector companies as a film and television policy consultant, is a writer and experienced script editor, and has been an assessor for all the major agencies.

David Taft, Producer

David Taft lived in the UK during the 1970s and 1980s, and was a BBC producer for most of that time. He produced, wrote and directed over 200 television programmes in Schools, Current Affairs and Features Departments. He was also trained as a drama director by the BBC. David returned to his native Australia in 1988, and was a freelance writer and director until joining the ABC as the Executive Producer of the Children’s and Education Department in Melbourne. Since then, David has produced two series of Cluedo, four series of the top rating comedy series, Newlyweds and produced a series of the sketch comedy series Jimeoin. Since forming Harvey Taft Productions with Michael Harvey, David has produced the TV drama series State Coroner – which became TEN’s most successful 1998 drama series – and the six-part ABC drama series Dirt Game to be premiered in April 2009.

Lisa Horler, Producer, Line Producer, Production Manager

Lisa Horler has a unique set of skills having worked as a Documentary Practitioner and as a Project Manager in the multimedia and software industry. As a Producer/Writer/Director of documentary, she made her first documentary, Writers…The Real Story in 1995. This screened at the Banff Television Festival in Canada. Her first documentary for Australian broadcast was the poetic essay style Levantes, filmed in Greece and Turkey. It was a unique portrayal of ethnic diversity in the region. It screened on SBS in 1998 and gained much media attention. She produced and co-wrote From Here to Ithaca, again filmed in Greece for the Hybrid Life series on SBS. In 2005 she produced and directed Made in Heaven for ABC Television. Lisa worked for the Australian Children’s Television Foundation from 1999-2002 in the New Media Unit. During this time she production managed/project managed all the ACTF’s substantial new media developments including all website development, CD Rom Development and the major software development Kahootz Version 2.0, a ground breaking 3D authoring tool and community website for schools. Lisa is currently working as a Line Producer/Production Manager for 360 Degree Films, recently working on two Film Australia/ABC History Docs, “Menzies and the Fate of Australia” and “Monash and the Anzac Legend” in 2008. Lisa is currently working on The Trial, a documentary about the terrorism trial Benbrika vs the Crown, for 360 Degree Films. She has also just completed Alone in A Crowded Room, a documentary about adults with autism, made through her company Licketty Split.

FACILITATOR

Sue Marriott currently works as a freelance film production and events management consultant and lecturer in arts management. She was an Industrial Organiser for 16 years with the Media Entertainment & Arts Alliance (MEAA) and a recent Film Victoria Board Member until 2004. Sue is currently President of Women in Film & Television (WIFT) Victoria and a Vice-President of the MEAA, Victorian Branch. As a lecturer at Melbourne University for the last two years, Sue taught Industrial Relations and Arts Management for Post-Graduate Diploma students. She has a recent broadcast screen credit as Production/Location Management Consultant for the documentary Endangered. Sue knows and has worked or consulted with, nearly every established producer/production company in Victoria and many interstate.
