Dale is responsible for leading the Talent Development department. This department focuses on finding, fostering, connecting and progressing talent from across the film value chain. Before joining the Commission in 2015 Dale, a kiwi, had been living and working in the UK for the past 16 years, most recently as CEO/Creative Director of GMAC Film in Scotland. In this role since 2004, Dale was responsible for identifying high quality emerging talent and supporting them to develop a career in the film industry. He was also proactive in the creation of innovative diversity-led talent development programmes in Scotland.
As a filmmaker Dale’s short films have played at festivals around the world winning an audience award at the Palm Springs International Short Film Fest in 2008. His debut feature film, Running in Traffic had its world première at the Edinburgh International Film Festival in 2009 where it was nominated for 5 awards including the prestigious Michael Powell Award for Best British Film. The film was selected in official competition in festivals in America, Luxembourg, France, Germany, the UK and Italy. It picked up 3 Scottish BAFTA nominations for Best New Director, Best Actress and Best New Producer, which Dale and his producing team won. He also won the Norwegian Os International Film Festival Award for Excellence in 2009 for this film.
